Temporary Tunnel Closures at Capitol Tower
As the first phase of the Capitol Tower development continues, for safety reasons, the main pedestrian tunnels on the property are closed as of Saturday, May 31, 2014. This includes the tunnel connections from Capitol Tower to Pennzoil Place, to the Esperson Building and one connection to 712 Main. The tunnel connection between Chase Tower and 712 Main Street will remain open to provide access to Capitol Tower garage for tenants with parking contracts.
The map illustrates the tunnel closures and provides a list of retail tenants located in the surrounding buildings. To access the neighboring buildings and retail establishments, pedestrians will need to enter and exit at street level.
Bigger, Brighter, Better Tunnels
A signature design element of Capitol Tower is a new and improved tunnel experience featuring a pedestrian plaza with a soaring 38-foot opening and grand staircase that joins the street and tunnel levels. Each platform of the oversized staircase will have tables and chairs, creating a natural meeting place, and a large glass wall will let in abundant natural light. Plans for the space include one-of-a kind retail and restaurant choices, completing the transformation to a bright, inviting gathering space for all downtown patrons to enjoy.
